Since their debut in Call of Duty: World At War in 2008, zombies have become integral to the CoD series. After all, there isn’t much to dislike about blowing away the undead with the fidelity that few games like Call of Duty can provide.
In fact, their popularity has gotten to a point where some players will skip releases if they lack a zombie mode. Thanks to the zombie modes traditionally being friendly for couch co-op or solo play, collecting older titles is feasible so long as a player has the equipment to play it.
To make your collecting easier, here’s a rundown of each Call of Duty title with zombies.
All Call of Duty Games With Zombies in Them
For the most part, zombie modes in Call of Duty are largely the same, aside from the maps available. Generally, up to four players will be locked in a building or small location and must survive as long as possible against unlimited waves of zombies. Kills reward points that can be used to purchase new weapons and clear debris, opening up the map. There have been a few variations as the Call of Duty series has evolved over the years.

- In addition to the traditional survival mode, Black Ops II introduced an eight-player mode, “Grief,” and “Turned.”
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (2014)

- Call of Duty: Black Ops III (2015)
- Taking a turn from the traditional Zombies format, Black Ops III brought about the “Shadows of Evil” campaign. This mode functioned more as a fleshed-out story mode than the oft-used survival mode.
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (2016)
- Infinite Warfare, while not necessarily taking a step backward, did its best to make the Zombies mode more accessible across the board with a shared point pool and doors that the entire team could unlock.
- Call of Duty: World War II (2017)
- With World War II, Zombies returned to their Nazi roots. In this iteration, players could take on one of four different classes. Keeping with Infinite Warfare’s decision to make it friendlier to new or casual players, World War II’s developers also buried plenty of story, lore, and more in its hardcore path for diehard fans.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018)
- For the first time, players could set up custom Zombies matches with “Custom Mutations,” which included dozens of options. Elixirs and Talismans made their first appearance in the series. Also included were two separate storylines, a new one and the original “Aether” storyline.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (2020)
- The Aether story continues with “Dark Aether.” There are two modes available to players in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The first is the traditional four-player mode, where players must progress through a zombie-infested city and survive until the end. The other features an open map with numerous objectives that must be completed.
- Call of Duty: Vanguard (2021)
- The “Dark Aether” story continues in Vanguard with Der Anfang. The Altar of Covenants was introduced, which allowed players to purchase randomized buffs for each round.
