The esports world was shaken by the news that Valorant Pro Daveeys passed away unexpectedly at 23. KRÜ Esports, the organization with which he was associated, confirmed the heart-wrenching news on September 4.

Santiago ‘Daveeys’ Ruiz had recently marked his 23rd birthday on September 2, 2023, and tragically, the following day he was gone. He joined KRÜ Esports in October 2022 and has made a significant impact in such a short time.

In a deeply moving statement, KRÜ Esports expressed, “It is with deep sadness that we have to inform you that, after suffering a medical issue on Sunday, @Daveeys21 passed away,”

“There is no way to soften this, it took us all by surprise.”

Elaborating on Daveeys’ invaluable contribution to the team, the statement continued, “Daveeys, Santi, was a spectacular player and a first-class teammate. With his trademark hard-working humility, he was proud to be able to inspire and represent his country and region at the top of the global VALORANT. It was his dream, and he saw it come true.”

KRÜ Esports further extended their condolences to Daveeys’ family. They urged the esports community to envelop them with “strength and love.”

Daveeys had been pivotal in KRÜ’s qualification to Valorant Champions 2023. They clinched their spot by winning the Americas Last Chance Qualifier, besting formidable teams like Cloud9 and FURIA. Their stint at the Champions ended after matches against Paper Rex and Giants.

A tweet from Daveeys’ teammate, Axeddy, on September 3 now holds a deeper meaning. Before the announcement of Daveey’s death, Axeddy poignantly tweeted, “Never forget to tell the people you love that you love them.”
