Thunder Cage is arguably the most popular Ultimate Weapon in The First Descendant. A staple of many loadouts, this Submachine Gun is one of the best for clearing out groups of Vulgus, thanks to its Overcharge unique ability, which makes the defeated enemy emit an electric shockwave, that further damages nearby enemies. With so many mentions of Thunder Cage, newer players wonder how they can get this amazing firearm, and veterans ask what is the absolute best build for Thunder Cage, and what Weapon Modules work best. This article will answer both of those questions. Keep reading to see how to get Thunder Cage in The First Descendant, and what is the best build for it.
How to Get Thunder Cage
Thunder Cage is the first Ultimate Weapon that you can get. You just need a bit of luck and to know where to look. Thankfully, all the required pieces are in Sterile Land, the “second zone”, after Kingston, and you can see on the map all the Main Story missions that provide Thunder Cage parts. To help you out, we have singled out exact missions that offer those parts. Bear in mind that the first Thunder Cage that you’ll get has a 100% drop rate. After the first one, the drop rate falls to 20%. You’ll need more Thunder Cages to create the Ultimate Thunder Cage
- Battlefield Mission – High-Powered Jammer (Sterile Land Restricted Zone)
Provides Thunder Cage Nano Tube (20% drop chance)
- Battlefield Mission – Kuiper Mine (Sterile Land Repository)
Provides Thunder Cage Synthetic Fiber (20% drop chance)
- Battlefield Mission – External Reactor (Sterile Land Rockfall)
Provides Thunder Cage Polymer Syncytium (20% drop chance)
- Battlefield Mission – Logistics Facility (Sterile Land Ironworks)
Provides Thunder Cage Blueprint (20% drop chance)
Having only a 20% drop chance means that you’ll maybe have to do these quests a couple of times before you get the desired part. Once you get all of these parts, head back to Albion, and look for Magister Anais. Select the Research Request dialogue option, to open the Research screen. Select Weapon, and Thunder Cage should be the first option you see. To research it, you need all the parts mentioned above, and you have to pay 100.000 Gold. And you’ll have to be at least Master Level 1 to do si. It takes four hours for Thunder Cage to be researched. Once those hours have passed, go back to Anais and your brand-new Thunder Cage will be waiting for you.
Remember that new Ultimate Weapons begin at Level 1, so remember to take to the weapon station’s Workbench to upgrade it.
Best Build for Thunder Cage in The First Descendant
The best Thunder Cage build needs Weapon Modules that increase the firearm ATK, firearm Critical Hit Damage, and firearm Critical Hit rate stats (for some additional damage, so it can eliminate enemies faster and trigger the special ability as much as possible) and deal with the drawbacks that many SMGs have: Reload time and smaller Magazine Capacity. Additionally, some improvements to its already high rate of fire are also useful. Here are our best Modules for Thunder Cage, but bear in mind that best builds are subjective, and your experience and impressions might differ from ours.
Reload Insight | Improves weapon’s Reload Time and Critical Hit Rate |
Bullet Rain | Improves weapon’s Fire Rate and ATK |
Insight Support Ammo | Improves weapon’s Magazine size and Critical Hit Rate |
Insight Focus | Improves weapon’s Critical Hit Rate and Critical Hit Damage |
Sharpshooter | Improves weapon’s Critical Hit Rate and ATK |
Better Concentration | Improves weapon’s Critical Hit Damage |
Expand General Magazine | Improves weapon’s Magazine size |
Better Insight | Improves weapon’s Critical Hit Rate |
Rifling Reinforcement | Improves weapon’s ATK |
Don’t forget that you can add “elemental” Enhancement Modules, which add Electric, Fire, Toxic, or Chill bonus firearm ATK to your weapon, especially if you’re up against a Colossus and want to exploit their vulnerabilities. Some similarly great Modules for Thunder Cage, if there is room for them, are those that reduce Recoil, improve Weak Point damage (like Weak Point Insight, for example), and shot Accuracy (like Hawk-eye).
Along with the Nazeistra’s Devotion Hand Cannon and Afterglow Sword Sniper Rifle, Thunder Cage is everyone’s favorite and makes up the current “meta” build. It is an ideal choice for Bunny, who is the best Descendant for eliminating groups of enemies in no time, and it works well with her Electric attribute Skills.
