The First Descendant Players Reveal the Reason Behind the Size of the Latest Patch

The new patch dropped on July 19 and flabbergasted many Descendants before they even got the chance to check out the patch notes. You see, it wasn’t the content of the patch that threw off The First Descendant players but the sheer size of this hotfix. Community members explained why the sizes vary for different players and why any patch should ever be that huge.

Dedicated Descendants Explain the Size of the Patch

Many players reported having to install a 36GB patch which is quite a hefty size. Reddit was overflowing with players asking for patch notes and the explanation for the humongous hotfix. Randomredditnumber mused: “36 GB update on Xbox? What are they doing that needs an update as large as the base game?”.

Soon after some PC players noted that the sizes of their patches were mostly around 350MB. This created even more confusion, as now the PC players were worried that they would be missing out on something huge. Boreall stated: “On Steam I had a 346MB download and a 36GB File Check, which looks like a download but is more like verifying integrity”.

So, by now, you’ve probably connected the dots yourself. The entire game is 36GB, and while the PC players get to just install a hotfix, the Xbox players need to reinstall the entire game. The one thing that still confused the players was why couldn’t the Xbox players install just the patch.

EnamoredAlpaca explained: “Consoles do not have separate folders for everything. They are packed into a compression file and that file needs to be redownloaded if you want to replace it. This is why console updates are so big, it just can’t replace a single 200MB file that is located in a 4GB package”.

Players Praise the Devs for a Thoughtful Hotfix

With the mystery of the patch size solved, the First Descendant players could finally enjoy the update. The Descendants raved about all of their favorite additions and praised the devs. The fact that the patch notes were full of director’s notes impressed the entire community.

Saiing stated: “This is turning into a case study of how to communicate with your community. I really hope it continues like this”. Another player, maxfields2000, noted: “Best part of these notes was the teams /explanation/ for these changes. It’s sad this is such a low bar to cross but I’m, happy they did”.

Anxiety_Upbeat praised: “Can we just talk about how awesome these devs are? Like instead of nerfing everything that is busted, they’re actually enjoying watching players making insane builds in their game. All game companies should strive to be like them”.

Honestly, we were seriously impressed by this patch, as well. The developers listened to the player base and delivered what the players asked for. Everyone expected Bunny or Gley to get a nerf, as popular overpowered characters usually do. At least, that’s what the players were used to by now. We sincerely hope the developers will keep listening to the players and providing them with a satisfying game. After all, the games should be made for people to enjoy, not just as artistic expressions of the developers.
