Free-to-play games, just like The First Descendant, have to rely on in-game purchases in order to make some revenue. If a game is making money, the devs are encouraged to keep working on it and improving it. If not…
The way The First Descendant is earning revenue is by selling Caliber. Caliber is the game’s premium currency, which players can use for basically every purchase, but predominantly to unlock new Descendants or purchase skins. It is a great way to get a new character, for example, without having to grind for days and wait for them to finish researching (sometimes for more than a day). But some players had serious issues with Caliber purchases and are warning others not to make the same mistake.
Careful How You Purchase Caliber on PlayStation
One player noticed an issue when purchasing Caliber on the PlayStation. In a Reddit post, they gave a detailed account and offered advice on what you should do when trying to get some premium currency on PS.
They claim that if you purchase Caliber via PS5’s home screen (by navigating down to DLC/Add-On purchases), you will not find your purchase waiting for you in the game. “It will NOT be In The Inbox in the Store Tab where purchased Caliber is supposed to appear immediately after purchasing, it will not be there 2 weeks later (I’ve tested this for you). It will NEVER BE THERE.”
They even tried contacting both Nexon and Sony support but to no avail. “After a week [of] waiting for Sony to email me back, I called them and was pretty rudely told that it was looked into however many days ago after I submitted a ticket and that they decided it went through on their end and they would not be offering a refund, and to contact the publisher of the game.” followed by: “Then after about 5 days Nexon responded to my ticket with a 2 sentence response “Thanking me for reaching out, and recommending I reach out to Sony support”, and then marking my ticket as “Solved”. Highly unprofessional.
What they recommend is that you make all of your purchases in-game. ‘If you log into the game and go to the store tab and make your caliber purchase there instead, all will work as intended…”
What To Do Whan Faces With This Issue
The OP had some success in fixing this. They say that, after all the fuss they experienced, one player’s advice helped them out.
“I was able to get my Caliber by trying what was recommended to me another reddit user named hartigen, in another thread. I made another purchase [in-game], of the smallest caliber bundle (About $5). And it was immediately delivered to the inbox in the store tab ALONG with the caliber I had purchased 2 weeks ago!”
Better Safe Than Sorry
The OP is not the only one here. Another player, named blarpie had the same experience: “Yeah i had the same issue 2 times, once bought from the home screen the other time on the psn website. So just save yourself the trouble and do it ingame.”
Others had to wait for a while, like RevolutionaryBoat925: “I bought some via PS app, took 2h or so for it to appear in game. Next time, I’ll buy from the game menu directly.”
On the flip side, a lot of other players had no issues whatsoever. User Vlately said: “I don’t think the bug is consistent. This happened to my BF, but it did come after 20 mins. I purchased directly from the store and it showed up immediately in my inbox. It is certainly a gamble though. I thought it was just a one off. Good to know!”
In conclusion, this issue seems to be luck-based, ie, it may or may not happen to you. But, maybe we should follow the OP’s advice and make all our purchases from the in-game store, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
