We get it, farming for materials and components in The First Descendant can be a bit taxing. Sometimes you have to spend around 20 or 30 minutes on a mission for a slim chance of getting what you want. And you’ll have to repeat the whole thing, most likely. And not to mention boss battles. Some Colossi can be a real pain to deal with, with or without a party, and all that just for a slim chance of getting what you want. You can see why players try to find the most efficient way to farm. But, there is one farming method that is arguably the most efficient one: you do absolutely nothing and get all the rewards! But for some reason, it is frowned upon by almost everyone. Let’s see why is that.
Players Sick of AFK Farmers
Jokes aside, AFK Farming is when a player joins in on a mission/Void Intercept Battle, with no intention of contributing whatsoever. They wait for others to win the battle for them, after which they just claim the rewards/open Amorphous Materials and go on their merry way. As you’d expect, having someone on the team who is AFK will make the rest of the players pretty angry.
In one Reddit post, a user named -ExSOLDIER- started a thread saying that the AFK Farming problem needs to be addressed as soon as possible. “It’s really getting annoying having players not participating and just staying afk until the very end of Dungeons and Intercept bosses. A system NEEDS to be put into place ASAP as the problem is getting progressively worse everyday.” They continue saying that blocking and reporting does not help combat this problem at all.
Naturally, more players agree, adding that if you see AFK players, you should just leave. “If someone goes afk for an extended time in a dungeon I would leave. I haven’t seen someone AFK in intercept bosses because I assume that’ll cause a wipe.” said Grimhazesakura, and “If you see people AFKing in infiltrations and intercepts, just leave.“ added Ice-Nine01.
What Is the Best Course of Action?
Sometimes, AFK-ing can be justified. As said by Vanishedspartan, some play with friends and family, and someone may have to go AFK to handle an unrelated issue, while others go on without them. “We play throughout the day, and all of us have kids. At times, someone has to get up and go take care of something one of our kids has done while the rest of us continue to play through the mission.”
The solution we see is that there should be a way to auto-remove AFK players, but only for “public” parties. If the party members are friends with each other (in-game, at least), then they can go AFK as long as they like. In summary, public parties should have a system for handling AFK farmers, while private parties should not. What do you think? What should be done about AFK farmers?
