Gley is one of the most interesting characters to play in The First Descendant. She has a unique playstyle that beginner players may find daunting. But, with the right tools and a bit of practice, Gley can be a powerhouse and deal an insane amount of damage. Her main feature is that she does not have MP or Shields but uses her HP to power her Skills. Her “ultimate” Skill is more powerful the more HP she’s missing, adding a unique mechanic to the game, and uses her Power of Life stacks, instead of HP. That is wildly different from other, more straightforward characters. Since Gley requires a different approach, her best build is also quite different compared to her Descendant colleagues, so let’s look into it.
Gley Skills
- Thirst (Passive) – Creates Life Spheres upon killing enemies. Recovers HP and stores Power of Life when absorbing Life Spheres.
- Frenzied – Consumes HP to activate Frenzied state. Ranged Firearm ATK and Penetration increase during Frenzied state, but also Incoming DMG is increased and HP Recovery is reduced.
- Life Siphon – Deals damage to nearby enemies and recovers HP. Deals additional damage during the Frenzied state, reduces Incoming DMG for a certain period of time during the Non-Frenzied state.
- Increased Sensory – Her Increased Sensory adds an infinite ammo effect for a certain amount of time during Frenzy, and when in a Non-Frenzied state, increases Movement Speed, HP Recovery and Life Sphere generation rate.
- Massacre – Changes current Firearm to Massacre. Adds additional skill damage during Frenzied state, and inflicts Stun effect on hit enemies in Non-Frenzied state.
Best Gley Build
As we mentioned, Gley uses HP to fuel her Skills and does not use MP. Furthermore, she has no Shields, so this build completely forgoes any MP and Shield buffs. She deals damage primarily with her weapons and uses Skills to either increase her damage or heal herself. So, a powerful weapon is crucial for this build, as well as increasing her survivability. Improving her Skill Durations and Cooldowns is also important, so let us see how best to equip Gley, and what items are the best for each equipment category: Weapon (and Weapon Modules), Descendant Modules, Reactor, and External Components.
Best Weapon for Gley in The First Descendant
Surprisingly, the best gun for Gley is not a Unique one. Rather, it is a Rare Machine Gun called Tamer. It has the highest damage of all firearms that use Regular Ammo, and with the right Modules and Gley’s “infinite ammo” ability (Increased Sensory), it can shred Commanders and Colossi alike.
For clearing waves, you can’t go wrong with Thunder Cage, which benefits quite a lot from Gley’s Skills that increase the ATK (like Frenzy). For more close-quarters action versus the Colossi, the Executor Shotgun gains more and more ATK as long as you keep hitting the target with all bullets fired. Combine that with Gley’s already impressive ATK-increasing abilities, and you’ll be dealing some insane amounts of damage.
Weapon Modules
Since Tamer is the go-to weapon for Gley, the best Weapon Modules for it are those that increase its ATK and Fire Rate. But, the most important Module for Gley and Tamer is the Mental Focus. It increases the firearm ATK, the longer you shoot with it. Since Gley can get unlimited ammo with her Increased Sensory Skill, this combination can have devastating results and shred Colossi with ease. So, the best Weapon Modules for Gley are:
Weapon Module | Effect |
Mental Focus | Each shot grants a small ATK boost, stacks up to 150 times; Reduces Fire Rate |
Fire Rate Up | Improves weapon’s Fire Rate |
Rifling Reinforcement | Improves weapon’s ATK |
Better Insight | Improves weapon’s Critical Hit Rate |
Stance Stabilizer | Improves weapon’s ATK, reduces Recoil |
Weak Point Aiming | Improves weapon’s Accuracy and Weak Point damage |
Descendant Modules
Gley players should look for Descendant Modules that increase her Skill Duration, and improve her survivability (namely HP and DEF, as Gley does not have any Shields). Other, more “exotic” Modules can also be quite useful, as you will see below.
The best Descendant Modules for Gley are:
Descendant Module | Effect |
Increased HP | Increases Max HP |
HP Concentration | Increases Max HP and Skill Critical Hit Rate |
Increased DEF | Increases DEF |
MP Conversion | Reduces Skill Cooldown, decreases Max MP |
Nimble Fingers | Reduces Skill Cooldown |
Skill Extension | Increases Skill Duration |
Maximize Duration | Increases Skill Duration, decreases Skill Power |
HP Collector | Recover HP when defeating an enemy |
Reactor
Reactors improve Descendants’s Skills, and even those who rely on their weapons need a good Reactor. Reactors have to match your Skills’ type and subtype for maximum effect. Gley’s Skills all have the Non-Attribute type, so a Reactor with “Materialized” in the name is the one for her.
Furthermore, her Skills have either Singular (Frenzied and Increased Sensory) or Dimension (Life Syphon and Massacre) subtypes. Her Singular Skills do not benefit from Skill Power, so a Singularity Reactor is not recommended. You should get one that boosts Dimension Skills, ie, a Phase Reactor.
In conclusion, the best Reactor for Gley is the Materialized Phase Reactor.
External Components
Lastly, you have External Components that improve your DEF and similar stats. We have already established that Gley does not use Shields, so you can freely skip those.
With that in mind, the best External Components for Gley are those that improve HP Recovery, Max HP, and DEF.
Gley is a tough nut to crack, but with this build (and some practice), you will turn this humble Medic into a high-risk high-reward killing machine. Like Bunny of Sharen, she can do down easily if you are not careful. But, if you can get Ajax to protect you, shredding bosses will be easy as pie.
