The Game Awards 2024 – The Six Nominees for GOTY Award Have Been Revealed

Before the official announcement, the players speculated which games would be nominated for GOTY. The games with the most “votes” were: Helldivers 2, Astro Bot, Balatro, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Metaphor: ReFantaizo, Black Myth: Wukong, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Space Marine 2, Stellar Blade, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. There was a lot of talk, and quote bit of controversy, about Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC getting nominated or not. A lot of fans had issues with it being DLC, and that raised the question of whether DLCs should be allowed to compete with other, “complete” games. It is a great game, virtually a standalone one, so let’s see what is the final verdict. Without further ado, here are the official GOTY nominees for this year’s The Game Awards.

  • Astro Bot
  • Balatro
  • Black Myth: Wukong
  • Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio

We knew it! Shadow of the Erdtree is so good that it got nominated for GOTY, even though it is “just” a DLC. But what a DLC!

As for other games, we are a bit disappointed that Helldivers 2 wasn’t nominated. But the competition was fierce. The greatest surprise was Balatro, as not many saw it coming. As for the rest, quite expected, as all of those games have performed incredibly well. Now, we just have to wait for December 12 at 4:30pm PST /  December 13 at 12:30am GMT to see who will take the award. Stay tuned.
