New games often introduce somewhat unusual concepts that are hard to grasp without proper explanation. You might have heard of the Season wipe in Once Human, but why are so many players terrified of it? Are new features always bad?
How Much Will the Wipe Take Away From the Players?
There has been a lot of misinformation online, some players are even boycotting the game and warning others not to buy anything, further spreading unnecessary fear. GrapefruitHour7743 declared: “I was so pumped for this game. Played the demo and was looking forward to playing it today. I just found out that progress gets wiped every 6 weeks. Now I’m not excited to play it. There need to be some PVE servers that don’t wipe”.
The guessing and spreading of false information became so bad, that the developers had to step in and offer a very detailed explanation of their vision. In a lengthy post on Discord, the Once Human developers explained the concept of Seasons, as well as what would survive the Season wipe.
The items that will be carried fully to the following Season are Important Currency, Gear Blueprints, Furniture Formulas, Cosmetics, Expressions, Poses, Namecards, and House Blueprints. Your Main and Side story progress is also safe, as well as your friend list. Materials, medicine, and ammo will be carried in accordance with the item transferring rules.
Season Design Divides the Once Human Players
Some players found the Season wipe acceptable, while some didn’t. One Redditor, superzepto, mused: “Why is the Season wipe such a big deal? I get that anyone who doesn’t know better thinks that all of your progress in the game resets every 6 weeks, but the devs’ explanation of how it works actually piqued my curiosity and made me interested to see how the meta of this game will turn out”.
Uberkull disagreed: “If players are really into the building aspect and value their possession, the whole wipe everything every 6 weeks will kill off the populations of players. Saving blueprints isn’t really enough. Still have to regrind all the materials, all your stored items, all your prized loot”.
Well, there is always a voice of reason in the middle. GamingDifferent suggested: “Play the Season and then when the Season ends and stuff resets, play a bit of the next Season so you can tell if the reset is really that bad. Just let it play out before you call it trash”.
We’d add don’t knock it until you try it. The developers certainly have a reason why they applied this concept to their game. They are obviously listening closely to the players’ feedback, and that’s always a good sign. We can’t wait to check out the following Season.
