Teahouse

The first stage showcased in the Official Gameplay Debut Trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 is what we’ll refer to as the Teahouse, wherein Scorpion and Sub-Zero meet a much younger Kung Lao. This particular stage was featured in the trailer twice, holding battles between Sub-Zero and Kung Lao at different times of day. Fatalities aside, the traditional Asian teahouse is actually quite beautiful.

Johnny Cage’s Apartment

Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and additional fighters meet up at Johnny Cage’s apartment, which acts as a stage in the gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. This sets the scene for a brutal duel between Johnny Cage and his unexpected visitors, giving us our first look at the new Kameo feature. In this case, Sub-Zero joined in on the battle, delivering some particularly cold blows against a sunny LA backdrop.

Ancient Ruins

It’s a good thing these ancient ruins appear to have been deteriorating for quite some time prior to the arrival of Liu Kang and Scorpion. While it’s possible that the ruins overgrown with lush gardens might be home to the fire god, we won’t know exactly how Liu Kang and Scorpion wound up here until we receive more details about the location. Regardless, it seems the structure might fall in light of the duel.

Shaolin Temple

We can pretty safely assume that this Shaolin Temple is Raiden’s home given the context of the clip showcased during the recent gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. Not only that, but the original fighter is also entirely in his element here, delivering fatal attacks with great tact and skill. In the background, we can spot other monks practicing their own moves as the two fighters spar within the temple gardens.

The Princess’ Royal Grounds

The Princess sisters Kitana and Mileena duke it out in a no-holds-barred battle on royal grounds. Draped in vivid purple tapestries and décor, this arena is presumably home to both fighters, who have a long history of a love-hate relationship. In Mortal Kombat 1’s brand-new timeline, we’ll likely see the tumultuous relationship between the two sisters explored through blood, sweat, and tears.

Forest Temple

This forest temple of sorts takes a significant step away from the other arenas revealed in the newest trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. During a battle between Mileena and Liu Kang, we can see the beautifully lush backdrop gives way to a bright path beyond two trees. While we can’t be certain just yet, these trees appear to be sacred, given their glowing green gaze. Such a peaceful place for a duel to the death.

Waterside Lantern Festival

During what appears to be a waterside Lantern Festival, Johnny Cage and Kung Lao face off in battle. Based on the clip of this stage in the gameplay trailer, it seems to be exceptionally intricate with small details everywhere you look. Despite its enchanting atmosphere, a more sinister-looking statue looms over the two fighters as they duel. It’s safe to say this stage isn’t all fun and games.

We’re bound to receive more information about new stages and the full roster of characters in Mortal Kombat 1 as we near its release in September. For now, we can only guess at official titles for each arena and their significance in the plot. Fortunately, those who have signed up for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Stress Tests might just get a first-hand look at each of these revealed stages.
