Is Honkai: Star Rail Multiplayer?

If you are a fan of the upcoming action role-playing game from HoyoVerse, Honkai: Star Rail, you may be wondering whether the game is a multiplayer or a single-player game.

Genshin Impact, another game from the developer, has multiplayer features and looks a lot like a multiplayer game. It is understandable to wonder if the newest game from the developer has the same features, as this was a well-liked feature of Genshin Impact.

We will answer that question and provide more details about multiplayer in the game.

Is Honkai: Star Rail a Multiplayer Game or Single Player?

The answer to this question is both yes and no. Honkai: Star Rail is not a multiplayer game in the traditional sense, as players cannot join each other’s games like in HoyoVerse’s other popular game, Genshin Impact. However, the game has a support system that allows players to add a friend and borrow their support character as a temporary team member.

This feature is only available in Calyxes, which are separate instances of the game’s levels. So while players cannot play through the story mode with their friends, they can still interact with them through the support system.

Is Honkai: Star Rail an MMO?

No, Honkai: Star Rail is not an MMO (massively multiplayer online) game. MMO games usually allow a large number of players to play in the same game world simultaneously. Honkai: Star Rail, on the other hand, is a single-player game with limited multiplayer features.

How Can I Play With Friends in Honkai: Star Rail?

As mentioned earlier, players can add a friend to the game and borrow their support character as a temporary team member in Calyxes. To do this, players need to set one of their characters as the support character on their Trailblazer Profile.

Once set, their friends can borrow this character during a Calyx run by pressing the green support button next to their fourth team member. The game then generates a list of support characters the player can borrow. If players don’t have friends on their list, the game will randomly select a list of players from whom they can borrow support characters.

Once the player selects a supporting character, they will be added to their team for the duration of the Calyx run.

This is similar to the pawn system from Dragon’s Dogma, except instead of a pawn, it’s the player character.
