Final Fantasy XVI makes a few changes to the series’ formula with gameplay, but has also returned to the franchise’s roots in some way. While the last few Final Fantasy games have experimented with multiplayer, this new entry may surprise some people of its direction. So is Final Fantasy XVI multiplayer? This guide will help players answer the questions if the game can be played alongside friends in various forms of multiplayer including co-op and couch co-op.

Can You Play With Friends?
Unfortunately, you cannot play with friends in Final Fantasy 16. The game is a single-player action role-playing title with no support for multiplayer. That means there is no way to play online with friends over the PlayStation Network when the game releases on PS5 at the end of June 2023.
While there have been no plans announced for post-launch expansions or add-ons, it is always possible that the developer could add a multiplayer mode sometime in the future. The previous mainline game in the franchise, Final Fantasy 15, added a cooperative multiplayer mode as a separate download after the game’s launch.
So while the future of multiplayer in Final Fantasy 16 is uncertain, there is no support for multiplayer in the game at the time of this writing.
Is Final Fantasy XVI Co-Op?
Since Final Fantasy 16 is a strictly single-player title, there are no cooperative multiplayer modes in the game. There are other games in the franchise that have included various forms of co-op play, but it is not a focus in the latest title.
Is Final Fantasy XVI Couch Co-Op?
Final Fantasy 16 does not support multiplayer at all, so it does not contain any way for to play cooperatively with others. It cannot be played alongside a friend or another person on one screen in couch co-op.
