Final Fantasy XIV is one of, if not the most popular MMORPG game currently in the industry, and with technology reaching a point where cross-platform play and cross-progression between different platforms is becoming the norm, many PC players wonder if they’re able to play FFXIV with their friends that play the game on a PS4 or PS5 and vice versa.
Worry not as we’re here to clear up any questions or misunderstandings you might have regarding Final Fantasy 14’s cross-platform capabilities.
Is There Cross Platform in Final Fantasy XIV?
So, does Final Fantasy 14 have cross-platform play? Yes. Players playing on a PC are able to play with players playing on either the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 and vice versa. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.
For starters, both players have to be in the same Data Center. If they aren’t, then they might have to purchase a Data Center Transfer for $18.
Additionally, whether or not both players have the same version of the game is completely irrelevant. As a matter of fact, a PlayStation 4 player can play with a PlayStation 5 player even when using the same account as long as the characters they use are different.

Is There Cross Progression in FFXIV?
Final Fantasy XIV players planning on moving platforms will be happy to know that the game also supports cross progression. So, no need to delete your character when moving platforms. The cross progression process itself is as seamless as can be. All you have to do is log in with the same account you use for the other platform and you’ll get access to both your characters as well as all your progress.
One major downside is that although pretty much all your items will also be transferred, you’ll have to purchase any expansions you purchased on the first platform again on the second one.
