Many would argue that Super Earth is actually Utopia. However, the latest Major Order victory showed a darker side of our favorite planet. As always, when the Helldivers 2 players completed the MO, they received a briefing, but this one raised concerns for Super Earth citizens’ safety.
The Latest Briefing Paints Super Earth in a Bad Light
As you probably know, the latest Major Order has come to an end. The players had to liberate and keep three planets on the bot front so that the Center for Citizen Surveillance & Safety on Mastia could be built.
According to the in-game briefing, the FREEDOM Act is fully implemented, and the Center for Citizen Surveillance & Safety is operational. The new Unity Corps has already identified and apprehended “thousands of loyalty-challenged individuals”.
Among the things that Super Earth does to keep citizens safe is pushing Information campaigns. All Super Earth citizens also do Patriotism Reinforcement Exercises daily. Sounds awfully like brainwashing against brainwashing, right?
We are all for liberating the Voteless, but this is where this whole thing gets truly concerning. Apparently, citizens are complying, forming Neighborhood Watches, and installing surveillance in their homes.
The briefing concludes: “The threat of Illuminate attack remains as great as before. But thanks to the Helldivers, our citizens feel safer than ever. They are safer than ever”.
Helldivers Have Concerns About the Briefing
Many Helldivers 2 players pointed out that this briefing made Super Earth sound like a bad guy. Though there is no way that’s true, the High Command definitely drew inspiration from Orwell’s 1984.
One player, poppabomb, noted: “I love the last paragraph, some propaganda copywriter realizing they made a contradiction, so they just double down on what they want to emphasize. Doesn’t even feel like double-speak, just like whoever wrote it is almost trying to reassure themselves that it’s true”.
Many Helldivers found the reassuring tone of the last paragraph a bit threatening. Loud-Asparagus-4136 stated: “You know that the moment Super Earth assures something, it’s gonna go wrong. The Illuminate are about to throw down”.
So, dear Helldiver, watch out for those Illuminate. The latest leaks show off some of the possible abilities of Obelisks. With devs slowly returning from the holiday break, there might even be a chance for a Special Event. See you out there, Helldiver! For Liberty and Super Earth.
