After giving up on Hellmire, Helldivers are getting new wind and diving into a new Major Order. This time, they are fighting Automatons and ignoring the horrifying Gloom. Some Helldivers 2 players find this particular Major Order quite intriguing, as they think it might fit into lore and bring some buffs.
The Current Major Order Sends Helldivers to Vernen Wells
The current Major Order brings the players to Hydra Sector, on Vernen Wells, to be exact. The players were ordered to liberate Vernen Wells and kill 500 million bots. Now, the detail that piqued everyone’s interest is the possible lore explanation of why the adored flamethrowers were nerfed.
The Major Order Briefing offered some interesting information. It stated: “The Ministry of Defense has finalized preparations to augment Super Destroyers with the capability to fire Orbital Napalm Barrages. However, critical shortages of polystyrene foam and scrap metal have caused production to stall”.
Thankfully, “a large Automaton repository of unexpanded polystyrene” was found on Vernen Wells. Also, the Automatons could be used as scrap metal needed for this project. The Briefing concluded: “Liberate the polystyrene stockpile on Vernen Wells and collect enough Automaton scrap metal to jump-start Orbital Napalm Barrage production. This environmentally-friendly effort will recycle the brutal instruments of socialist imperialism into increased security for our citizens”.
Helldivers 2 Players Suggest How the MO Fits in the Lore
Devoted Helldivers 2 players quickly put their thinking hats on and tied in the Major Order with the lore. Could it be possible that Super Earth ran out of napalm so they had to give their Helldivers an alternative fuel for their flamethrowers? Some players claimed that was the case.
Brohibi noted: “This new MO is a lore excuse to revert fire changes. The new MO is to liberate Vernon wells and recover materials to make napalm for the Napalm Barrage. This would suggest that Super Earth has had a napalm shortage and needed to cut back on use. This is an explanation for the fire change, Super Earth had to find a weaker substitute, such as propane”.
Of course, that would mean that once this MO was completed, Super Earth would have enough napalm. Then the nerfed weapons could get a buff. As you know, the Game Director promised all the major issues would be fixed. Some players pointed out this approach would be a clever way to turn a bug into a feature.
We are sincerely rooting for the devs to do just so, and allow the players to carry on with their fixed flamethrowers. Furthermore, a lore explanation for the entire mess would be a great bonus. At the time of writing this article, the community has a little more than 4 days until they find out, so use them wisely. We’ll see you on Vernen Wells, near the SEAF Site, we’ll be the ones trying out various weapons and Stratagems.
