Have you ever been kicked from the mission at the very end? Whether you disagreed with the host, or someone decided to try the last man standing trend without telling you, it was always just terrible. You’d lost everything you worked for, usually without even knowing why. Well, the Escalation of Freedom will solve that annoying problem. One clever change will prevent grief kicking in Helldivers 2.
How Will the Devs Prevent Grief Kicking?
On July 23, Helldivers 2 devs announced their biggest update so far. Aside from the details in the video, the devs posted a lengthy blog post that offered even more information about the update. Many players might have missed a very important detail because they were blinded by all the shiny additions. This one doesn’t sound particularly exciting, but we’re sure that it will have the biggest impact on the game.
The developers acknowledged that grief kicking has become a problem in Helldivers 2 and came up with a great solution. They stated: “While it’s our hope that players engage with the game in good faith and sportsmanship, we do recognize that some players are using the team kicking to grief others”.
The devs continued: “To help improve this we have implemented a system where if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all of the team’s loot from their previous session. All items can now be picked up by the player before extraction. The squad doing the kicking will see a message in the chat widget that a player has been kicked, yet their loot remains unchanged”.
Some Helldivers 2 Players Have Concerns About the Lack of Consequences
We believe that a simple change like this has the potential to improve the game immensely. Most players recognized this as a great solution and praised the devs. As always, some community members had concerns.
YorhaUnit8S noted: “Yeah, it also removes any consequences from griefing. You can just go and shoot the whole team at extraction. You can have as much fun as you want, shoot host, etc. And after you are kicked – pick all samples and extract with full rewards”.
Comprehensive_Gas629 stated: “There’s no such thing as a perfect solution. And generally, it’s better to make sure innocent people aren’t f**ked over than to always punish the griefers. What would be nice is some kind of a s**t list for people who rack up huge amounts of TKs, and just force them to play together until their TK ratio goes down again”.
To be honest, we’ve been grief-kicked way more times than we’ve encountered someone who deserved to be kicked. We wholeheartedly approve of this change. It is just one more lovely addition to the possibly amazing update.
The excitement over the Escalation of Freedom update is almost palpable in the Helldivers 2 community. August 6 can’t arrive soon enough. We’d suggest you use the waiting time to help your fellow soldiers complete the Major Order. For democracy.
