One Small Improvement Could Take the Helmets in Helldivers 2 to a New Level

The Helldivers 2 players have finally cooled down after the disappointing Escalation of Freedom update. Some things that helped were the support of the Arrowhead CCO, as well as the Community Manager’s reassurance that a new patch was coming. Also, lately, there have been many leaks that gave the players hope for the future. Now, devoted Helldivers 2 players are asking for another improvement, this time to Helmets.

Helldivers 2 Community Would Love One Improvement

Believe it or not, the original ideas for Helmets were much more elaborate. Unfortunately, the CCO revealed that at the time it was impossible to incorporate everything they wanted, as the release date of the game was too close.

Dedicated Helldivers have come up with a way less elaborate idea that would significantly improve their in-game experience. Fresh_Dealer_9694 suggested: “We have so many Helmets but none of them mounted thermal imaging camera, why is that?”.

GreasyGrabbler explained: “Might not have been able to implement it properly. The issue with 3D models is that they don’t individually give off heat so you have to put in more time and effort than they may have been able to do at the time”.

Other players confirmed that this change might be too complicated to implement. Helldiver_LiberTea noted: “The old CEO stated that there were plans for infrared options in the game, but they realized that they would essentially have to code a whole second game for it to work and scrapped it. So it’s likely to be on the back burner for a while”.

Players Share How the Devs Could Change the Helmets

Nonetheless, Helldivers 2 players came up with some solutions on how to make this improvement to Helmets possible. One popular idea was inspired by another game, Battlefield, as the devs managed to overcome the issues and deliver good thermal imaging.

One player, mythrilcrafter, said: “I do like the DICE’s solution to that in Battlefield 3/4 with the IR scopes/vision. Their solution is to have heat displayed with the models having their textures replaced with solid white. Everything else appears in shades of monochrome grey”.

Another player, BotoxGod, noted: “Don’t the bugs leak green misty blood already and the Spewers give off fumes? With the invisible explosive damage being already in effect, they could probably just designate each bug with a hidden thermal modifier effect only visible if the player uses thermal. Heck if they were lazy, just copy the green misty blood and fumes, make it red, green, and blue instead”.

We love a good, simple solution, and that last one takes the cake. The implementation shouldn’t be terribly complicated. But, still, we can’t know if it would affect another aspect of the game. Lately, there’s been awfully lot of fog in-game, so no one can blame the players for offering solutions. Hopefully, the Arrowhead devs will listen to the community and do something about it.
