What we truly appreciate about Arrowhead devs is the fact that they interact with players and act on their feedback. The “do right by the Helldivers” philosophy is exactly what makes this game special. And, it seems like the devs manage to find some inspiration when they least expect it. The Helldivers 2 CCO, Johan Pilestedt, was chatting with players about new ideas when one player suggested an interesting recoil mechanic that simply blew Pilestedt away.
The CCO Had a Revelation About a Possible Recoil Mechanic
There is no better time to search for inspiration than during the holidays. People are more relaxed and they are more likely to come up with something really cool. Pilestedt has been chatting with players on Reddit for the last couple of days, getting feedback and discussing ideas.
Well, one idea took him by surprise, and we’d guess inspired him profoundly. One player suggested: “That’s certainly an idea. He acknowledged the biggest “problem” with it in that it would need a catch in order for it not to overtake every other MG. My thought would be to have it impact the Divers’ speed and stamina”.
Pilestedt noted: “Stamina drain is a great idea! And when too low you can’t resist the recoil”. He added: “Man…. thinking about this more… this is in general a great system…. I gotta meditate on this. There’s something awesome here in regards to recoil control and stamina”.
Helldivers Appreciate the Devs’ Commitment to the Community
Now, this proves that the truly great devs only need a tiny inspiration to get them started on something big. We’re sure that the Helldivers 2 CCO will come up with some brilliant new recoil mechanic. Of course, the community loved seeing this kind of communication with the player base. Knowing that the devs of your favorite game truly want to hear (and maybe even use) your feedback and ideas creates a lot of respect toward them.
Sir_Netflix noted: “It’s kinda hilarious how decent/good communication just makes the world a better place. Even in gaming, if companies just talked to their player base, public sentiment would skyrocket. Treat your consumers like they have brains”. AsterSky added: “Seeing a dev get this excited over a community-fed idea is pretty awesome”.
As for the idea itself, well, the community loved it, as well. AssortmentSorting noted: “I like this.
It also adds synergy with Stims, too (slam a stim before holding down the trigger against a large horde).
To add on: increase stamina drain while moving and firing, but still allow some movement while firing, and significantly worse accuracy while moving and firing without stamina”.
It would be nice to see this idea implemented, as it’s truly cool. We’ll keep an eye out for it in future updates. Meanwhile, let’s celebrate the New Year by frying some Squids and completing the Major Order. For Liberty and Super Earth.
