The game’s first anniversary is coming up, and the players are getting more and more excited with each passing day. Several storylines are unfolding, and the community has been trying to figure out how exactly everything would play out. Well, an unsuspecting Helldivers 2 player may have accidentally discovered the connection between the Meridia storyline and the rumored (and long-awaited) Gloom Research Expedition.
What is the Gloom Research Expedition?
Now, before we get into details, we’d like to point out that this is based on one player’s experience and community-suggested theories. This was in no shape or form confirmed by developers, but it seems plausible.
As you know, ever since Meridia started losing connections to other planets, some players started organizing watch parties, hoping to see something happen. The idea was to park your Super Destroyer in the vicinity of the Meridian Singularity before it lost its final Warp Link. So, one devoted Helldiver, Odd-Struggle-6397, did just that.
However, the Singularity started moving, and many players were booted from Meridia to Super Earth, or to one of the planets in the nearby Sectors. This is exactly what happened to the OP. Only, they were somehow transported to Erson Sands, a planet covered by the Gloom.
The OP provided a screenshot of what they saw (below). They were offered a Gloom Research Expedition. The description read: “The Gloom may hold the key to stopping the Illuminate from moving the Meridian Singularity. A scientific expedition is being conducted to this planet, at extreme cost and risk. The Helldivers must secure every scrap of useful data on the Gloom. The expedition will focus its efforts on the area inside and around the colonies lost to the Gloom. This will allow the Helldivers to find and repurpose…”.
The OP noted: “Unfortunately, I couldn’t scroll down for some reason, so that’s all I got. As for the mission, I locked it in and will be diving soon to see what else there is”. As of the time of writing this article, we don’t know what the Helldivers have to find and repurpose.
Helldivers 2 Players Look Forward to Going on the Expedition and Saving Super Earth
Though many tried guessing, this mission description actually gave players a timeline. As you know, the Meridian Singularity has already started moving, so Helldivers 2 players will probably be going on the Gloom Research Expedition quite soon. Maybe even for the next Major Order.
Now, this is kinda disappointing, as many hoped the rest of the Illuminate would arrive on the first anniversary. However, the devs probably won’t launch two big missions at the same time. So, the players expect to be fighting in the Gloom on February 8. Trust us, that’s more than enough, as we’ve seen some leaks of what awaits in the Gloom.
As for the rest of the mission description, well, the players noted that it could fit in with what they already found out in the leaks. For the time being, the Singularity is headed toward Super Earth. If Helldivers complete the Gloom Research Expedition, they might slightly change the Singularity’s course. And it could potentially miss Super Earth and collide with a nearby planet. Klen Dahth II, perhaps?
Obviously, we’ll have to wait and find out, but this seems plausible, don’t you agree? Whatever happens, we’re sure it’ll be spectacular. In the meantime, let’s finish the Major Order against the Jet Brigade. For Liberty and Super Earth.
