Doom and the Gloom, Hellmire Is In a Tight Spot in Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 player on Hellmire

The latest Major Order was a tough one, but valiant Helldivers slayed 5 million Bile Titans and 750 million bugs, all while managing to hold 3 planets. The idea behind this MO was to hold off the Gloom from spreading, but something unexpected happened. The Gloom has spread even more and swallowed the infamous Hellmire, leaving Helldivers 2 players in shock.

Helldivers 2 Players Surprised With the Progression of the Gloom

Unsurprisingly, as you may have suspected, the players were quite divided on this matter. Some warned about the dangers of the Gloom, while others… celebrated. This might come as a surprise to some of the newer players, as the armor from the Freedom’s Flame Warbond offers some more protection, but Hellmire has been the bane of many players’ existences.

Practical-Stomach-65 noted: “It is funny that after the completion of the Major Order, it says we slowed down the gloom. Super Earth has an interesting concept of slowing down. I wish the devs slowed down those 60 days”.

At the time of writing this article, there’s an active defense mission happening on Hellimire. As you can see in the picture, it isn’t going well. Only 32 Helldivers are active, and the Mirin Sector is at 0% liberation. Around 8 hours are left for Helldivers to complete the mission.

What Will Happen to Hellmire?

Many Helldivers 2 players are certain that the Gloom has to have an effect on Hellmire itself. Will the bugs change the planet? Or vice versa? The community came up with some great ideas on what the future holds for Hellmire.

Some players hoped that the Gloom would somehow change the conditions on this planet. BrickGardens suggested: “My guess is the gloom will terraform hellmire into anything other than fire tornados”. This might be a strategy that the devs choose to balance the severe conditions on Hellmire.

Another player, aporhtonoma, had a different idea. This player noted: “Watch it come out as a supercolony with mutated fire tornado spewers”. DefaultyTurtle2 stated: “High rate of reproduction + disadvantageous environment provokes evolution. Fireproof bugs”. Several players agreed that this seemed like such an “Arrowhead move”, meaning that they thought this scenario was most likely to happen.

Now, there was another very popular idea among the player base. ArsenikMilk said: “The only good thing that filthy cloud has ever done is swallow that planet. Hopefully, it never comes back out”. Yes, lots of players are hoping that Hellmire will go through the same treatment as Meridia. Some are actually even asking for “Meridia 2”.

We actually don’t mind the fire tornados on Hellmire, so we’d be sad to see them go. We’ll all just have to be patient, wait, and see how the story unfolds. What would you like to see happening to Hellmire?
