Should Epic Add the Option to Purchase Only 100 V-Bucks in Fortnite?

Premium currency is one of the ways games earn revenue, especially if they are free-to-play. Such is the case with Fortnite. This immensely popular multiplayer game is completely free to play, so it relies on V-Bucks purchases to keep it going. Players use those V-Bucks to get some new Outfits, Pickaxe skins, Back Bling, and other cosmetics. At the moment, you have the option to purchase 1000, 2800, 5000, or 13.500 V-Bucks. But, what if you only need just a tiny amount to get that skin before it leaves the shop? Why isn’t there an option to purchase only 100 V-Bucks?

Being Able to Get 100 V-Bucks Would Help the Players

As it stands now, the lowest amount of V-Bucks that you can get is 1000 for $8.99. Having the option to purchase even less, if you are really going for a certain cosmetic and a couple of hundred V-Bucks is all you need, would allow those players to make their desired purchase. One player started a Reddit thread, discussing this. “Agreed. It’s such [a shame] they don’t have it when often that’s all a person needs,” said Rising-Serpent and “I’d at least like them to get a 500 v-bucks option. It would be very convenient with bundles. Other games like Apex have that option, and it helps a lot to get that tiny little extra bit you need,” added GracedApollo.

The Majority Thinks It’s Probably Not Going to Happen

Unfortunately for the players, Epic has to think about getting revenue. The fact that the lowest amount of V-Bucks you can get is 1000 is pretty intentional. “That’s exactly the reason – so you buy more than you need,” said Shppo. User Unhappy_Geologist_94 added “…it’s a clever business practice altogether, why they price skins 1200 and 1500, is just simply to prompt you to get the $24 deal.”

Adding the option to purchase smaller amounts of V-Bucks will result in lower revenue in the long run. The way they could actually make some cash is if they don’t keep the prices proportional to existing ones. For example, they can say that 500 V-Bucks cost $4.99, and 100 V-Bucks costs $1.50. That way they would give the players options and still come out on top.

But, in the grand scheme of things, Epic will most probably leave the V-Buck shop as it is. One player even added “It’s probably not worth it when you consider the transaction fees and 3rd party store fees to sell such a low denomination.” It would help the consumer, but not the company. Unfortunately, we are the consumers here.
