A new (old?) game mode is live in Fortnite. Keep reading to see what is Fortnite Reload and what specific mechanics it has, along with a list of quests and rewards.
Fortnite has been around for a while now and, naturally, has changed a lot. Every new Season and new Chapter changes the game a little bit, so it is hardly surprising that the Fortnite of today is a lot different from the classic Fortnite, like it was at the beginning. From time to time, Epic Games releases some of the old content back into the game (like we had in Fortnite OG, for example) for that sweet nostalgia hit. And now, we got a new game mode called Fortnite Reload, where you and your squad battle it out against other enemies, with “classic weapons, classic locations, and classic vibes”. So, see what is in store for us in Fortnite Reload.
Fortnite Reload Game Mode
Fortnie Reload is a new squad-based battle royale game mode, on a smaller island than usual. It went live on Saturday, June 22, and features new “Reload” mechanics, unvaults some classic weapons, and even offers some neat rewards. As usual, you can play the regular mode and the Zero Build mode. There are 10 squads of four players in a single Reload match, meaning that a total of 40 players will be fighting for survival in very tight conditions.
Reload Mechanics
Fortnite Reload is a special mechanic where, after you get eliminated, you automatically respawn after some time, as long as at least one of your squad members is alive. It takes 30 seconds to “reboot”, which increases to 40 seconds as the match progresses. During the final stages of a match, the respawns are disabled.
Surviving players can reduce their squadmates’ reboot timer. Each downing of an opponent reduces the timer by 2 seconds, each elimination by 4 seconds, and wiping out an opposing squad reduces it by 10 seconds.
Duos
From June 27, you can play Reload in Squads and in Duos. That means you and your best mate can take on other pairs of Fortnite players until only one Duo remains. The Duo mode has some slight changes:
- Reboot timers begin at 12 seconds and scale up to 16 seconds later in the match.
- The remaining teammate can reduce their partner’s reboot timer by 2 seconds by downing an opponent, 3 seconds by eliminating one, and 5 seconds by wiping an opposing duo.
Unvaulted Classic Weapons in Fortnite Reload
Some classic weapons and items are making a comeback in Reload, with allegedly more to come. The currently unvaulted items are:
- Revolver
- Tactical Shotgun
- Lever Action Shotgun
- OG Heavy Shotgun
- Tactical Submachine Gun
- Infantry Rifle
- Heavy Assault Rifle
- Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
- Rocket Launcher
- Grappler
Sadly, there are no vehicles in Fortnite Reload, due to the island being smaller and easily traversable on foot.
Reload Quests and Rewards
To top it all off, Fortnite Reload has its own set of Quests, and completing a set amount will reward you with some pretty cool cosmetics. If you complete three quests you will get the Digital Dogfight Contrail, six will net you a Pool Cubes Wrap, and complete nine to get the NaNa Bath Back Bling. Finally, if you manage to get a Victory Royale, you’ll get The Rezzbrella Glider.
The Quests in question are:
- Thank the Bus Driver (5)
- Deal damage to enemy players (5000)
- Outlast players (500)
- Complete Reload Daily Quests (12)
- Acquire Accolades (10)
- Collect Items (25)
- Collect or spend Bars (500)
- Assis or eliminate enemy players (25)
- Travel distance after exiting the Battle Bus (5000)
- Survive Storm Circles (25)
There is no word on how long Fortnite Reload will be active, but, if it proves popular, it may be here to stay.
