Fortnite’s latest update has created a new meta on the game – the Explosive Repeater Rifle. The gun is already getting rave reviews from the community, who are still recovering after one of the best weapons, the Heavy Sniper, was vaulted.
“It’s like the exotic explosive dmr, minus the scope, slow fire-rate but bullet travels faster (I think) plus the aoe range is slightly bigger, and it deals 36 damage on aoe and 63 on direct hit. But that’s the common variant I haven’t tried any other variants yet,” wrote one fan on a Fortnite sub-reddit.
So what makes it so special? We gave it a test drive and found out the following:
- The rifle can deal damage even when you miss a target, so it’s great for those who like spray weapons
- It can hit multiple targets at once – perfect for those who prefer shooting from the hip and not aiming
- Its headshot damage can be increased with the new Heavy Headshots perk – making it far more effective at close-range
- The rifle benefits from the Bloodhound perk, meaning it can tag enemies – perfect for tracking and stalking your prey
- It can be found in many loot sources – common, so plenty of opportunity to get the practice in
It comes as the beloved Heavy Sniper, one of the game’s best long-range rifles was vaulted. Upon hearing the news, tributes flooded in on Twitter, with one fan tweeting: “They vault snipers and bring them back way too much. Make up your mind.”
Elsewhere, the Fortnite update saw the return of the Pump Shotgun – but there was a catch. The controversial gun is set to have its damage profile tweaked, which will arguably make it less powerful.
According to legendary leaker Hypex, the pump shotgun will have a tight spread of fire, be long range and is expected to a have reduced Headshot Damage at Legendary Rarity. This is expected to be quite the nerf from a weapon that once used to do 200+ damage.
