Fortnite has been around for years now, and it has seen its fair share of different game modes and mechanics. It was a hit-and-miss, as some were disliked by the community, while some turned out to be incredibly popular. Such was the case with Siphon. In Siphon, all the healing and shield-restoring items were removed from the game, but, every elimination would restore 50HP or shields. It nudged players to actively participate in the game and go for those eliminations, resulting in a lot of nail-biter Ranked games. But, in May 2023, Epic removed Siphon from Fortnite, to everyone’s dismay.
Epic Announces a Series of Test Runs for Siphon
With the Fortnite Championship Series 2024 just finished, and Peterbot and Pollo being crowned champions, Epic was quick to announce some details concerning FNCS 2025. The first change is that the next championship will be done in Trios instead of the usual Duos. So, all the teams will consist of three players, instead of two. Next, the prize pool has increased, going from $7,675,000 to $8.000.000. But, we’re all here for Siphon. That’s right, Epic said that they’re preparing “a series of tournaments to test versions of Siphon for its return in Competitive”
Fans Ecstatic About Siphon
Since Siphon is a beloved mechanic, it is no wonder that the majority of players are looking forward to its return. You can see a lot of comments praising the decision, like “so glad they are realizing that siphon was a key element to ranked. Now if gold was reset to 0 then the game will feel competitive again” by OmgMrVampire, or “This is intense siphon next year will be fire” by weemeg_FN_YT.
The current Fortnite Season added an item with a similar mechanic, called Doombot’s Siphon Medallion. The problem is that only one player can benefit from it, making it a bit unfair to, well, everyone else. “The game will feel so good man, one player getting Siphon was probably the most unfair [thing] of all time lol” said qtElion.
It is still a long way to FNCS 2025, but we will allegedly get a number of events before that, to test the mechanic out. Who knows, maybe the first Siphon event will come sooner than expected.
