Is System Shock Remake Multiplayer?

Unfortunately, the 2023 remake of System Shock will not have multiplayer. That includes all forms of multiplayer in local, online, cooperative, and competitive.

It is not much of a surprise that the System Shock remake is a single-player experience as its previous versions, the 1994 original and System Shock: Enhanced Edition in 2015, did not contain multiplayer either.

Although, System Shock 2 did contain multiplayer with up to four players cooperatively when it released in 1999. The first System Shock did not have multiplayer, so the remake will be staying true to the original vision by not adding multiplayer.

What Platforms is System Shock Remake Launching For?

The System Shock remake will be launching for a variety of platforms, but not at the same time. The game will initially release for PC on May 30, 2023. It will be available through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. Pre-ordering the game will come with a free copy of the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition.

The game will also release for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One sometime after the PC version has launched. The developer, Nightdive Studios, have said that the game will be coming to consoles “in due course” and will announce details at a future date.
