What are Helltides in Diablo 4?
Helltides are routine in-game events in Diablo 4. Every two hours, a hellish wave of energy falls over a portion of Sanctuary, lasting for 60 minutes. You’ll see these areas marked with a blood-red tint on your map, and a timer will denote the remaining length of the event. You’ll easily recognize that you’ve entered a Helltide, as the sky will begin to rain blood and pool at your feet.
Naturally, these phenomena bring with them all sorts of overpowered monsters and demonic creatures just waiting to take you down. You’ll even encounter various bosses referred to as Helltide Commanders. Of course, the risk of entering a Helltide is not without reward. Defeating Lilith’s minions will grant you a huge amount of XP, making Helltides the perfect place to power up your character.
But that’s not all — upon defeat, these creatures will often drop Aberrant Cinders. These items are quite literally the key to unlocking Tortured Gifts of Mysteries. You’ll find these chests throughout affected areas, denoted on your map to help you locate them with ease. They contain all sorts of legendary items, from armor to jewelry and two-handed weapons. Depending on what’s inside, you’ll need varying amounts of cinders to open them, starting at 75.
You’ll also find rare and unique crafting materials in locations overtaken by Helltides. One of the most notable is the Fiend Rose.
How Do You Participate in Helltide Events in Diablo 4?
If you’re looking to enter a Helltide event in Diablo 4, then you’ll first need to complete the campaign and unlock the World Tier Three: Nightmare difficulty. Upon reaching this point, you will always be notified when a Helltide spawns.
You’ll see the Helltide’s region outlined in red on your map. Once an event begins, just head over to the affected area and start wiping out your demonic enemies. Be sure to keep an eye on the associated event timer in the process, as this will let you know how much longer it will remain active. Moreover, Helltides only appear every two hours, so you won’t always have access to one. Seize the opportunity when it arises to farm XP and get your hands on valuable loot.
