What is Crowd Control in Diablo 4?
In Diablo 4 and similar titles, crowd control refers to the act of immobilizing or otherwise incapacitating enemies with an attack or ability. As the term suggests, this helps to keep hordes of foes at bay, effectively preventing them from swarming you. If successful, you won’t need to worry about being overwhelmed by an influx of attacks, as your opponents are temporarily rendered powerless in some way.

What Counts as Crowd Control in Diablo 4?
The term crowd control can be applied to a wide variety of methods used to hinder enemies. In general, each is the result of one of your own attacks. In turn, the damage you deal is accompanied by a status condition of sorts, throwing off your opponent and preventing them from attacking.

Freeze | When Frozen, targets are unable to move. However, the effects can be broken by the abilities Immune and Unstoppable. |
Immobilize | While Immobilized, an affected target is unable to move, though they remain able to use abilities and attacks. This essentially keeps your target at a safe distance. |
Knockback | Similarly, Knockback can be used to create distance between yourself and your foes. Obstructions can affect the distance achieved, though your target remains immobile. |
Knockdown | Knockdown alternatively paralyzes your opponent for a short time upon creating distance. While active, your target remains in place. |
Pull In | The Pull In effect can essentially be used to place your target exactly where you want them, whether they’re drawn towards you or another fixed area. |
Slow | As it suggests, Slow will slow down your target. While it can be achieved with several abilities, the effect can vary in strength. |
Stun | When a target is inflicted, the Stun effect acts as paralysis, rooting them in place and rendering them unable to attack. Under its effects, most abilities cannot be used. |
Tether | The Tether effect ties a target to a limited space. They will remain able to move, but they cannot exceed the area’s boundaries. |
How to Combat Crowd Control in Diablo 4
There are a couple of methods you can try to help mitigate the effects of crowd control when you’ve become incapacitated. First, you can either the Unstoppable or Immune abilities. These will give you a moment to prepare your defense. While Unstoppable will allow you to break free of the effect(s) you’ve been inflicted with, Immune grants, well, immunity.
