Corrupted File Causing Modern Warfare 2 To Crash

The most common reason for Modern Warfare 2 crashing on PC is because Steam’s or Battle.net’s game files are corrupted. To solve this issue on Battle.net, just follow these steps to remove any malware from these files:

1. Open up Battle.net and click on Modern Warfare 2 in the overhead menu
2. Tap on the cog next to the Play button 
3. Press Scan and Repair and wait for the game to reload

Another possible reason for Modern Warfare 2 to be crashing on your PC may have something to do with the graphics drivers not being updated to the latest version.

To check whether you are using the latest graphics drivers in your games, follow these steps:

1. Open up Nvidia Experience/AMD Radeon Software
2. Head into the Drivers tab
3. Download and install any pending updates for the drivers

Running Too Many Applications at the Same Time 

Your Modern Warfare 2 can crash if you have too many applications, such as Discord, Xbox Game Bar, Geforce Experience, or any other recording software, running in the background, as they can interfere with the game. 

Even if you have the latest drivers or have equipped your system with enough RAM, it still does not warrant having too many applications or other games running on your system at the same time, so try opening so many that your system can handle.

Navigating Through the Menu Too Much

Something you should be careful about is not to overly navigate through the menus while waiting for a game to start in a lobby. There is an issue that causes the menu screens to freeze, causing the game to crash. 

If you want to equip any Camo or navigate through the options in the game, do it while you are not queued for a match. This causes an issue on both the console and PC. Furthermore, many players have reported a huge decrease in their game crashes by turning off the Parallax Effects settings. If you can’t seem to find where these are, just follow these steps:

1. Fire up Modern Warfare 2 and click on the Settings option in the top bar
2. From the pop-up menu, head into the Interface settings
3. Scroll down to Advanced Interface Settings, and the Parallax Effects Settings will be right there
