Call of Duty Players Dread the Skill-Based Matchmaking in Black Ops 6

Skill-based matchmaking, or SBMM, allows the players to connect and play with/against players of the approximately same skill level. It’s usually considered a great addition to a multiplayer game, as it provides the players, especially the rookies, with some much-needed balance to Multiplayer. Unfortunately, that means that skill-based matchmaking will probably break up some mixed teams in Call of Duty Black Ops 6.

Playing Call of Duty in a Team With High-Skill Players Affects the Skill-Based Matchmaking

Playing against hard opponents exclusively can be frustrating and some players even admitted to quitting the game over this issue. Several players expressed how worried they were because their squads were made up of players with different skill levels. So, if a high-level player joined a group of lower-level friends, those friends would consequently be matched with much harder opponents.

Aelexi93 stated: “It’s not just a game anymore – it’s become a chore to play. Some of you are lucky and probably in a closer skill gap; maybe it works for you, and that’s great. But for me, I lost my group. What used to be nights full of laughs and teamwork has turned into frustration and separation”.

Marcos340 added: “Yep, I’m in the same boat. I have a group that still plays BO3 Custom Zombies (4 people counting me) and an MP group with 5-6 people depending on the day. Sadly, they found out that if I’m not in the party the matches are easier. This led to a few game days in MP where I played solo since they didn’t want to try hard”.

Black Ops Fans Share How to Keep Your Team

Some Call of Duty players who played the beta shared some optimistic observations about the skill-based matchmaking in Black Ops 6. Bingo1dog noted: “In the beta, it seemed like I’d get easier matches playing with a party. Even when I grouped up where everyone was better than me the matches seemed easier than when I was solo”.

Other players chose different approaches. Some suggested that high-skill players should create a new account for playing with friends. Another option was for the high-skill player to basically lower their skill level on purpose.

One player, swaggboi909, suggested: “Have u considered using weapons ur bad at for a few games? Like for example I’m bad at sniping. So, if I try grinding XP for a sniper my skill is worse because I’m not as good with a sniper as I am with assault rifles and SMGs”.

Although we did feel the SBMM was working adequately in the beta, we can’t know how it’ll feel once the game drops. Hopefully, the mixed teams will be able to cope and survive. We’ll find out on October 25.
