If you were a bit miffed about not getting some cool dialogue options as a Paladin when it comes to specific gods, this article is just for you. Some Baldur’s Gate 3 players share a helpful PSA on how to get more thematic and god-specific dialogue options out of Paladins, without having to resort to mods.

Back in the good old days, Paladins were almost obliged to choose the god they worshiped and were always Lawful Good. That made them the champion of said god, and they were expected to act according to both their deity’s tenets and the LG alignment. Just like a Cleric, but a bit more proactive. The fifth edition of DnD, the one BG3 is based on, watered Paladins down a bit, having them revolve around Oaths, and removing any obligation to act nobly or to champion a god. So naturally, some players (mostly “old-school”) were a bit irritated that you can’t choose a god in Baldur’s Gate 3, just like a Cleric does, and have some cool interactions.

Well, even though we are lacking an option to champion a god as a Paladin by default, Larian did think of that. Turns out, if you, as a Paladin, take at least a single level of Cleric (and choose a god), you will get more dialogue options. “I became a Paladin and then took one level in Cleric just to get a deity I worship, and I have some dialogue options with the title Paladin of Selune !” revealed user RestlessExtasy in their Reddit post.

Apparently, they do have some dialogue overlap with the Cleric of [god], but according to one user: “In some cases they’re the same as the cleric dialogue, in others they’re different (and much more badass with the added paladin spice)”. Though there are naysayers, claiming that the dialogue is the same as the Cleric’s.

In any case, this is a great way to further develop the roleplay aspects of your Paladin. Yes, some mods allow you to do so without the extra effort, but using mods blocks the achievements (even though there are mods for that, as well!). Now, time for another Paladin run!
