RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 are all about upgrading your character with better weapons and equipment. Spellsparkler is a rare magic quarterstaff that gives you a useful magic buff to use in battle. The best part about it is that you can get it pretty early on in your adventures. But if you haven’t gotten it yet and are having trouble finding it, we’ve compiled a short and easy guide you can follow to get your hands on the Spellsparkler.
How to Find Spellsparkler in BG3
Spellsparkler is one of the possible rewards from the quest “Rescue the Grand Duke”, given to you by Counsellor Florrick. The quarterstaff is one of three choices presented to you by Counsellor Florrick for saving her. You can choose between the Spellsparkler (quarterstaff), the Sparky Points (trident), or the Joltshooter (longbow). Choosing the Spellsparkler as a reward from this quest is the only way to acquire it.
All three of these are rare weapons that will greatly enhance your fighting capabilities. However, if you’re playing as a magic user, Spellsparkler’s ability to trigger with cantips and spells synergizes really well with your overall kit. If you’re wondering about the quest “Rescue the Grand Duke” and what it entails, let us break it down for you.

What is the Spellsparkler in BG3
Now, why would you go for Spellsparkler over Joltshooter or Sparky Points? Spellsparkler is a magical quarterstaff that is ideal for magical characters. Notably, all three items possess the Electric Veins property. For Spellsparkler, this ability means that your character gets two Lightning Charges after using a spell or cantrip.
The quarterstaff is primarily a two-handed weapon, but due to its Versatile trait, it can also be used one-handed. Being a quarterstaff, using the Spellsparkler grants you the Topple action which allows you to knock enemies prone. However, the main power of this weapon comes from its Electric Veins.
Every time you deal damage with a spell or a cantrip, you get two Lightning Charges. They grant you +1 to attack rolls and deal an extra 1 Lightning damage. After accumulating 5 charges, they are consumed in your next damaging attack, dealing 1d8 Lightning damage. However, you also lose one charge per turn.
How to Rescue Counsellor Florrick
Early on in the game, during Act 1, you can travel to Waukeen’s Rest in The Risen Road. When you reach this area, you’ll find various quests like “Hunt the Devil” and “Rescue the Grand Duke” with Wyll.
Once you walk further into Waukeen’s Rest, you’ll see a group of Flaming Fists. The inn is burning and bodies are strewn about after a battle. The Fists are trying to break down a door to rescue people trapped inside the burning building. You can assist them in doing so by simply using different skill and ability checks. Another tactic is to just use basic attacks on the door to break it down. If you still fail to do so, you can try to enter through the roof by climbing the rocks on the left and then jumping down.
After getting inside the burning building, Counsellor Florrick can be found on the second floor. The flames are spreading and you can use water in barrels and spells to slow it down. It’s best to use the turn-based mode to complete this trial.
To save Counsellor Florrick, you have to break down the door the Flaming Fists are facing on the second floor. Breaking down the earlier door results in an explosion that will damage everyone nearby. However, that door leads to Benryn who’s trapped under a beam. When you rescue Counsellor Florrick and clear the way for her to get out, she will ask to talk to you outside. Once everyone is out and sage, Florick will reward you with your choice of one of three items.
