How to Save the Game in Alan Wake 2

Trying to figure out how to save the game in Alan Wake 2? You’re not alone. We’ll go over the different methods to save your progress to help you move forward on your playthrough.

Alan Wake 2 is now available to play across platforms, taking players back to the story that began 13 years ago. Spanning the length of 19 chapters in total, the new entry follows a storyline divided between Alan Wake and FBI Agent Saga Anderson. You’ll play as both characters as you travel between worlds and attempt to solve the mysteries before you. That said, you can freely choose which chapters to take on, so you’ll want to log your progress as you work to complete the main story. Here’s how to save the game manually and use the autosave feature in Alan Wake 2.

How to Save Manually in Alan Wake 2

From the early chapters of Alan Wake 2, you’ll have the option to save your progress manually. The first point during which you can do this is in Return 2: The Heat. That said, you can only save inside Break Room locations, which are few and far between. Once inside, you’ll see a steaming thermos sitting out on a table. Upon closer inspection, you’ll be given two options:

  1. Manual Save
  2. Quicksave

Choose the Manual Save option to log your progress here. You can also quit if you’re finished up playing for the time being.

How to Autosave in Alan Wake 2

Early on in Alan Wake 2, you can use the Quicksave feature at the thermos inside Break Rooms to log your progress and continue playing. However, the autosave function will also work to keep your progress safe, removing the need to do this on your own time. This feature will typically kick in following cutscenes and important checkpoints. Of course, you may still lose a small amount of progress if you’re disconnected from the game between one point and the next.

Can You Save Manually in Alan Wake 2?

The short answer is: Yes and no. Alan Wake 2 features dedicated save points inside Break Rooms, though there are a fixed number of these locations throughout the game. This means you can’t save manually any time you want. To make up for this, the autosave feature acts to save progress as you move forward in the story.
