Eversion: A Review & Study (Hard4Games)
Here’s a game that’s difficult to describe without exposing the secrecy behind it. Even if I were to tell you a tiny portion of what happens, I would ruin the game for you. If you are even remotely interested in trying it— please do so. Eversion is completely free to download (although an HD version was released on steam for $4.99, which is a rip-off in my opinion), and it’s short enough to finish in under a half-hour (maybe a few more hours if you want the bonus-ending). The best summary of the game is this; it is a creative use of 8-bit side-scrolling platforming. You control a flowery little dude who is off to save the princess, because that’s what all side-scrolling heroes do to pass the time. You can jump on baddies, and if you stumble upon a spot where the color and music changes slightly, press the ‘evert’ button, and you’ll enter an altered version of your current position, which is key for solving puzzles.
