Islamophobia and Video Games
The issue of how video games affect our minds and our behavior typically revolves around violence and children, however in recent days a new conversation has started. Extra Credits, the animated video game commentary show on PATV (formerly on The Escapist) raised the issue of propaganda in video games. In the episode “Propaganda Games” and its follow up “Call of Juarez: The Cartel”, the show pontificated on the use of video games as propaganda, both intentional and not, specifically positing that video games have contributed to Islamophobia through unintentional anti-Muslim propaganda. While Extra Credits typically backs up their opinions with facts and professional experience, this time they may not have spoken without thinking.
