MSXbox:Tony Hawk: RIDE Review
The Tony Hawk games have always been an odd amalgam of game design ideas, whitewashed in skating counter-culture. The earliest games were standard point-driven gameplay that relied on fighting-game style combos to rack up monster scores by stringing together impossibly long runs across well-constructed levels. Aside from equating incredibly complicated skating tricks with taps of a button, the game also raised the stakes over real skating by making any decent combo at least seventeen uninterrupted moves. From these awesome arcade roots, Tony Hawk as a series lost a little direction.
