PS3 Slim Isn’t Backwards Compatible? Sony Has Lost Touch With Consumers.

Not only is the new PS3 Slim NOT backwards compatible, but it seems like Sony is done with backwards compatibility for good.

In an interview with Ars Technica, Sony’s Director of Hardware Marketing, John Koller, stated:

"It’s not coming back, so let me put that on the table"

"It’s not as big as a purchase intent driver as you may be hearing. We’ve got such a substantial lineup of titles on the PS3; most people are buying the PS3 for PS3 games. They’re buying it for PS3 games and Blu-ray movies."

Right. Because gamers would much rather have to re-buy digital versions of their favorite last-gen games that they already own, assuming they’d ever be available for download in the first place.

Koller uses the term "most people." The word "most" implies more than 50%. Considering there’s millions of PS3 owners out there, Sony would have to have heard from the lips of over 50% of them that they really don’t give a shit about backwards compatibility, which would be highly unlikely.

Does it seem like Sony’s pulling a Nintendo? Nintendo lost touch with their hardcore fan base in order to appeal to a different group of gamers. Sony just lost touch with everyone and only wants to appeal to themselves.
