Mafia Games: Do They Offer Redemption?

Are we sick of indiscriminate maiming and killing? Perhaps we like Mafia games because they allow us to be the bad guy, but not too bad. It may be that some of us are demanding a bit of justification to our killing, some rules even. Is anarchy finally becoming dull?
