PCI-DSS Certification: Who Needs It?
On September 7, 2006, the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) was established to oversee the continued advancement of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) security standards, with an emphasis on increasing the security of payment accounts throughout the transaction. The PCI SSC, an independent group made up of key card brands, manages and administers the PCI DSS (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and JCB). PCI DSS compliance is the responsibility of payment brands and acquirers, not the PCI council.
