The rebooted DC Universe kicks off with Creature Commandos on HBO/Max. Written by James Gunn, the series has many of the elements that made his Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad movies successful – an interesting team of misfits, strong comedy, stylish action, and a surprising amount of heart. However, Gunn also included many references and influences from nearly every decade of comic book history.
