TeamXbox writes: "James Silva’s life has drastically changed. At one point, he was a wannabe game developer in upstate New York. Almost an eye blink after that, he’s onstage at a Microsoft press conference at the Game Developers Conference, held up as a shining example of how wannabe game developers can become actual game developers, thanks to the XNA Studio suite of programming tools.

Silva’s game, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, had been a winner in Microsoft’s Dream-Build-Play competition in 2007, which was put together to find the best XNA games the community could put together. Silva created Dishwasher himself-which Microsoft confidently used to reveal how easy the tools are in the game-creation process-and by virtue of the win, found himself the recipient of $10,000 and a contract to have the game become an Xbox Live Arcade release. (Dishwasher was actually a joint winner of that year’s first prize, sharing the honor with Blazing Birds.)"
