What The Hell Happened To Fatal Frame?

Fatal Frame as a franchise did see a relatively steady stream of releases since its debut on the Playstation 2 despite the fact that sales were never spectacular. They were never really dismal either with no sequel ever selling any worse than the first game, at least in Japan, so wouldn't it makes sense for the series to give it another shot on current hardware?
