There is a new game out and it follows and old model with several twists. Anyone remember text based games? « Rule the Seas » is a text based multiplayer online game you use your browser to play.

I have to admit I am a graphical gaming junky. When graphics first started to get interesting on the home PC clone I just could not get into the one text based game I tried. Fast forward 20 years and lots of money put down for a gaming laptop and you will find me hooked on Rule the Seas.

The game is in beta testing and has been online for only 4 days, but it has 231 players as of January 26th. This might be due to the in game rewards based on referrals. http://www.ruletheseas.com/index.php?r=251 if you want to refer me.

The goal of the game is what the name says. Whether you are mugging a drunkard or working out in a gym the ultimate goal is to advance your character gaining experience, attributes, money, and ultimately a ship with which to rule the seas. The continous advancement possibilities and the fact that you can take 30 seconds to switch over and attack « D-Rock » for stealing your gold while working at your computer at the same time (hold on a second, man is that guy tough) make this free game worthwhile. I mentioned free and it is, but you also have the option of buying upgrades. You can shell out hard cash to make your character a more formidable pirate, but the upgrades do not come cheap. I for the moment will continue to live under a rowboat instead of checking in at the inn. I expect after the beta testing phase the pricing for upgrades will come down a bit as well as tweaking some oddball dialogue.

Do you sneak 30 sec breaks at work? Do ya love bein a pirate matey? Do you want to steal some rum and gain experience for it? Then give an ogle to « Rule the Seas » and give me a referral!
