The visuals of Necropolis are the first noticeable element of the game. The visual style began when the art director decided to remove all the textures from the lead character and then all the textures from everything else. Then they decided to remove faces and feet. Removing hands, they discovered, was a step too far, so your avatar still clutches whatever weapon they have in hand. Thankfully, this minimalist approach, which calls to mind an underworld version Journey or Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, freed up resources to create realistic cloth movement and animations that would have been too costly if they'd had to texture everything.
