The A.V. Club
War Room is the fifth film by director Alex Kendrick and his brother and regular collaborator Stephen, and their first since 2011’s Courageous. All four of their previous movies have been fabulously profitable, but, in the Kendricks’ absence, an increasing number of theatrically released Evangelical productions have overcrowded the market, making each such release less of a fiscal sure thing. The Kendricks have chosen smartly in making War Room their first film with a predominantly black cast, a deliberate attempt to draw in a seriously underserved part of the Evangelical audience.
