Ex Machina Review | Cinelinx
From Cinelinx:
Ex Machina is serpentine, sizzling with high sci-fi ideals and foaming mad over some tripartite theater. Partaking in that triangle: Domhnall Gleeson, as Caleb, a golden ticket winner, Oscar Isaac as Nathan, a genius billionaire with an immense god complex, and Alicia Vikander as Ava, the incalculable A.I. Within Nathan’s estate (which is revealed to be a laboratory) these three characters create dialogue. It’s structured like theater, where the language moves everything; carefully though, without ever feeling like slogging exposition… Writer/Director Alex Garland has weaved a web of undeniable intrigue, with questions of what defines consciousness, and a unique position on the tried and tired man vs. machine debacle.
