What does Tembo mean for Game Freak?

With the announcement of Tembo the Badass Elephant, one has to wonder what might be going on behind the scenes with Game Freak and Nintendo. Is this just a one-time occasion or could this be the beginning of the end for Nintendo and Game Freak working together?
