The GCE writes: "With the success of The Conjuring, a movie I generally enjoyed, it was really no surprise that the studios wanted to go back to the well quickly to see if lightning could strike twice. It was a bit of surprise to see them go backwards if you will, to a prequel of sorts instead of the standard sequel.
Regardless of the motivations, Annabelle offers nothing new and feels like nothing more than a collection of tired clichés and really bad acting. The biggest scares come from the moments the camera lingers on the doll itself, which is still damn creepy but not nearly scary enough to carry this movie."
