The Evolution of Single Player Co-op

IGN – The games industry has changed a great deal over the last few years. New platforms have emerged, the independent development scene has boomed, new business models have been adopted and, most recently, a new console generation has been born. On the game design side too, we've seen plenty of change, and one trend in particular that's caught my eye has been the blurring of the lines between single player and multiplayer. On the one hand, you have single player modes becoming multiplayer – think Need for Speed Rivals and Destiny – and on the other, you have multiplayer design elements infiltrating single player experiences.
