Did Lionsgate Send Dredd to Die

IGN:

Dredd 3D was easily one of the best comic book films in recent memory. Dare I say it was the second best of 2012, only second to the Avengers (The Dark Knight Rises felt overwrought, slow, and hamfisted by comparison).

Yet, Dredd tanked at the box office, recouping $30M of its medium-sized $50M budget.

Here's the absolute bonkers thing though: someone at Lionsgate thought it would be a great idea to hold the film's DVD and Blu-ray release until after the holidays – January 5, 2013 to be exact. HOW. DOES. THIS. MAKE. ANY. SENSE?
