Is Wii U Voice Chat A Big Deal?

After hearing that only selective games will initially offer in-game voice chat (via a special headset), is this really a big deal for Nintendo in terms of console sales? Could Nintendo release a future update in order to take advantage of the GamePad's built-in mic?
